About the Project

Hello Everyone! My name is Landon Denham and I am a senior at BASIS Peoria high school. This blog will serve as a record of my senior project (SP). If you are unfamiliar with the SP system, you can view more information on the BASIS Schools' website.

I enjoy studying the topic of aviation. The purpose of my project is to investigate the future of airspace security. I am currently working with Prof. Siewert and his students, from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and the University of Colorado: Boulder, to test and improve a drone detection device called the "Drone Net."

The Drone Net is a device that monitors the sky from a fixed position on the ground. Software algorithms track the motion of all objects in the sky and determine whether the objects are planes, drones, bugs, clouds, etc.

Currently, the main goal of Drone Net experimentation is to accurately differentiate, in real time, between commercial, private and unmanned aircraft systems.

So, if drones and computers interest you, stay tuned for more information!
